Tarps always rate high for the Solo PCT hiker and are fun to set up in
different ways. But if your a tad tired of sleeping with ants in your bag or
like the the added warm a tent can offer, many solo tents can fill the niche.
Of all all the Solo tents out there , one that looks like a worth while nylon
palace is the Hilleberg Akto. This solo tent has only one width hooped 8.6mm
115 " pole and the largest vestible I've seen on any one or two person tent.
This Scandinavian tent company has been around 30 years with many overseas
PCTer's using them. Swiss Miss used the Akto 2lb. 14 oz. tent this year
which is bompoof. Also UK Ray packed a larger version from this Company. Of
course the most popular seemed to be the little Walrus Swift with the Eureka
Glosseur a close second. While the smaller solo tents keep weight as low as
many tarps , they lack volumes of a tarp or Akto tent. Check out.
www.hilleberg.com Akto cost is 340.00 which is awful high, but for 5
months, that's pretty cheap rent.
