In regards to Running on the PCT, I say what the hell is the point. We
hikers are there to "smell the roses", to see the incredible views -
something less than enjoyable when you are running with your nose to the
trail. Another point. I'm there to hike safely and as much as possible to
take care of myself. If I need to, I will interrupt my hike or do whatever
it takes, to help an injured hiker. Is it reasonable for runners to expect
the same from me? When you're running along near exhaustion, or just trying
to go fast, you are an accident waiting to happen. Understand that I am not
against running, and have run long distances now and then. I just don't
think it's a sane idea when medical help is sometimes a day or two away.
