[pct-l] Water bottles

Nalgene bottles are too heavy!  I don't want to carry a pound worth of Nalgene to carry a gallon worth of water!  What alternatives are available?  Are 1-liter or 2-liter empty soda bottles durable enough?  What alternatives did people find?

How about the collapsible gallon-sized containers that I keep seeing at EMS?  I couldn't imagine how to carry such an ungainly beast, but maybe you can enlighten me?
