It's fairly easy to follow the trail in the desert. There will most likely
be footprint from those ahead of you to follow. There are, however, some
places where the wind and blow away and remnants of the trail. Particularly
crossing the desert floor after Mt. San Jacinto. If I remember correctly,
the guide book actually gives you a heading to follow with a compass if you
can't find the trail. But, the highway is right there and you know you have
to hike under it.

And, Canada will be pretty hard to miss as well. Just keep going north! :^)
