Media reports on television are repeating the same line: a large amount of
the catastrophic fires that are sweeping the West are largely a result of
current policy of neglecting regular periodic control burns that decrease the
fuel biomass the destructive fires are consuming. That, and not having a
better system of forest roads and firebreaks.
The opposing school says that true wilderness needs unmanaged, pristine lands
devoid of roads, firebreaks, control burns, clearcuts and man's tinkering .
But if the fires result in devastating these areas, what has this approach
really achieved?
