Call the wilderness permit office of Kings Canyon (559)565-3708-the woman
there has given me the phone number of a shuttle service.  I just hiked
Cedar Grove to Whitney Portal and had similar logistics problem.  During the
hike, I met a couple who had used a different Lone Pine shuttle service to
shuttle them from the Portal to Cottonwood pass.  The cost was about $ 90.
I have a card here somewhere, that I'll look for.  If I find it, I will
email it to the list.
