This is a reply to Owens sleeping pad questin -- I use the Thermarest luxury
long pad. (All you lightweighers -- close your ears; er, eyes!)
My hips are -- how shall we say -- rounded, and on light pads they simply
hurt all night. When I was in my 20s, I could do it (this machisma thing, you
know.) Now, at 41 (ouch!) I'm a wimp. I like to sleep without having to take
fistfulls of Ibuprofen. So I carry that ridiculous mattress. -- Note: I've
seen real skinny guys also have this problem.
Good idea, you had, though -- they should make it a little less cushy around
the thighs down to the feet. Actually, I think some other modesl are
available (I've seen them advertisied in Backpacker) that have gdifferent
gradatation of cushiness around the areas where most peoples' body weight
tends to press (shoulders and hips).
Hope that helps,
Karen Berger
