[pct-l] Water Stashes

The southern PCT support team is considering restructuring how we do things
next year. But, be certain of two things: 1) There will definitely be a 3rd
Annual Day Zero PCT Kick Off and 2) Water will be stashed
again.........................

I Give a big hand of APPLAUSE to the first positive statement I have read
re the water stashes.

Yes there are pros and cons to having any type of help on the PCT. I have
had loads of help which has enabled me to hike 1500 miles on the pct. Yes,
as a section hiker. late last Nov. and early Dec. WE (two old gals who are
70 years plus) hiked from Aqua Dulce to Walker Pass. We could not have done
it without the water stashes at this time of the year. These were put there
by Letibe and Skunk (we were prepared to do this ourselves, taking one day
to drive to all these spots on the Mohave section.) We could not have done
it without help from Jim and Kelly, who put water on the section from Mohave
to Walker Pass and who live in Bakersfield and came down and drove my car to
the next section twice.
I could not have hiked without the help of Jeff Eckert, again placing water
for me over the San Felipe hills and driving my car for me. Also Pat &
Paul. Paul has driven me to trail locations twice now and taken care of my
car. He even alerted the authorities when I was in the Forest Fire. And
Donna Saufley at Aqua Dulcie, a gem of hospitality.

These are all incidents of" people helping people" and I hope I will be able
to help someone in return. In my recent accident, when Kathy and Ed through
hikers from Spokane, (who did not attend the Kickoff, but knew my name from
the list,) had not responded and Ed hiking his buns off to get into
Idyllwild to set 911 in action. This is all people helping people. Some
people do not need help nor do they solicit it. That is what makes us all
individuals.

There are all kinds of us out there enjoying the mountains to the best of
our abilities. Some, hike big mileage and some of us are 10 to 15 miles a
day. I really enjoyed the KICKOFF party and enjoyed meeting the faces that
go with the names on the list.

So I Say GOOD FOR YOU STRIDER......

Marge the old gal
