[pct-l] southbound hike

Snowpack is about normal this year in Washington. If you start before July 
1st, you're certain to hit lots of snow at elevations above 6000 ft. June is 
also usually foggy and drizzly - sometimes 28 out of 30 days in the Cascades- 
. This doesn't mean you shouldn't go. Just that as others have said, you 
should be comfortable with snow travel, ice axe use, map and compass, and 
equipped to handle wet weather. I'm certain many people have thru hiked 
Washington in June, but I personally have sworn off backpacking in the 
Cascades and Olympics before July 10, preferring day hikes instead during 
windows of good weather. After July 10 the hiking is generally superb. Note I 
said generally. Sept. can be miserable, sometimes. Mountain Dave
