Re: [pct-l] Light boots
Tom and others- I have the same problem with most shoes...my feet slide
around in them. I can't buy just any running or hiking shoe/boot.
Orthotics do help for me to get a better fit and "fill" the shoe.
I am not even so sure how light hiking shoes are. I took my digital
scale to REI in Sacramento and found that the "light" hiking shoes run
about a pound. I am going to hike in Asics 130's this year on my Section
I and J hike. They weigh 12.7 oz. I am planning on doing all my trail
runs in them and climb Half Dome in them next month to give them a total
assesment before I commit for a few weeks in them.
BTW, my hiking boots are about 1 1/2 lbs. They aren't super the super
light boots. I couldn't find light boots in a B width.
I also recommend orthotics to anyone who spends as much time as we do on
our feet hiking. Yes they cost over $300...but it was the best $300 I
spent. The only downside I can find is that they weigh almost 2 oz each.
I realized today that I am about 60 days out from my hike and have done
virtually no planning yet! Time to get busy.
Tom
