From the PCT to Whitney Portal:
... elevation gain/loss = ~ 3,000 / ~5,000 feet
... more than 10 miles (if you bypass the side trip to the Summit)
From the PCT to Horseshoe Meadows:
... elevation gain/loss = 0 / ~200 to 1,000 feet depending on exit point from
PCT (3 choices)
... ~ 2 miles
You do the math.
If you want exact numbers, ... you do the math. You should be able to make
your decision with the above ballpark figures.
