That's Kearsarge Pass, not Bishop Pass, you use to get out to Onion Valley
trailhead. And I think it's more like 9 miles each way from the trail to
Onion Valley. In ''97, we resupplied at Bishop. Went out over Bishop Pass
from Le Conte Canyon. It's quite a way out through Dusy Basin but the
scenery is spectacular. Shouldn't expect much difficulty hitching from South
Lake into Bishop.
