[pct-l] Food logistics: big bags or little bags

Based on your actual experience, what are the pros and cons of:
(a) Carrying large bags of rice, veggies, whatever and mixing meals up as
needed.
vs.
(b) Pre-packaging individual meals.
I've always pre-packaged, but have been thinking about carrying larger
quantities and putting things together at meal time. I think I'd like the
flexibility and I know that I'd like to avoid dumping all those Ziploc bags in
the landfill. I'm worried, though, about rationing and getting my food wet
when I cook meals in the rain. Another possibility, I suppose, would be to
carry big bags along with a couple of small ones and then "pre-package" on the
fly (in good weather).
Any ideas?
