I ALWAYS use a silk sleeping bag liner. I made it from very lightweight 
sheer silk I bought at a remnant store here in san diego, but I've seen 
them for sale at REI. Silk feels much nicer than nylon on the skin, and can 
be washed at the town stops.

I have also stopped using Vapor Barrier Liners, but use a Tyvek clean room 
suit instead. Lighter, and multi use, but alas it is white, which is not 
optimum for winter SAR, should I ever need it...

I have logged about 80 nights in my North Face Chrysalis 20 degree down bag over
the last six years.  I wear lightweight long underwear in it and clean socks, if
they are dry.  I wash the long underwear at least once a week if that's the only
time I'm wearing it.  I haven't had to clean the bag yet.  I also use the bag as
a blanket, and don't zip it up unless it gets below 20 degrees.  The only dirty
part is where I tuck the bag under my chin...
