Between the dry breezy flat above Barker Pass near point 8355, at 1123.3-8240, to the Velma Lakes at 1106.5-7965, there isn't much to recommend the country at this time of year, due to mosquitos, logging, and ORV's.
The guidebook describes the Blackwood Creek headwaters as remote camping, but there were numerous dayhikers on this Saturday.
