I am one of the thousands of hiker you helped. Thank you so much. You picked up my hiking partner and me at Mereno Lake and took us to the trail head at the border. When there you took all of the pictures we wanted and answered all of our questions about the hike. You were not in an assembly line hurry and we really appreciated that. Have a happy move into the mountains.Lady Pegasus

Greetings to the Class of 2018. My sincerest hope is that you all experience the very best the PCT has to offer. Since 1999, I have had the pleasure of hosting a few thousand hikers in San Diego. There is nothing like a house full of happy hikers from all over the world. As luck, or fate, would have it, I found my “forever home” last week. My offer has been made and accepted, and we are in escrow on the purchase of a delightful house on 3.3 acres in Alpine, CA. Time and distance make it impossible to host hikers as I have in the past, plus, I will be in the middle of moving all during through-hiking season 2018. Perhaps starting in 2019 I can get back in the game for hikers willing to make their way to Alpine where I can be their enthusiastic host again. That will entail bus/trolley/bus and will take several hours. Not the kind of hosting I have become accustomed to providing, but for those intrepid souls who are willing, perhaps it will work out. Watch for an announcement and a new email address in January of 2019.
Friends, it has been a good run. I miss it already. There will be an emptiness. Good Luck to the Class of 2018. Be safe out there. Bob Riess at the Trailhead in San Diego
