[pct-l] Solo female hiking advice...

Hi Erin,
I was pretty nervous the first time too. So far every trip I've done has
gotten better and better. I still get nervous thinking about it but then
once I set foot to trail my fears go away. I do the same thing as the
others and tell people I'm with a group if they ask if I'm out alone.
Most people are really friendly and I have only run into one guy that
seemed a bit off and I told him I was ahead of my group. He hung around
a bit and I said "I better go see where they are, seems they are taking
a long time". I turned around and started hiking back down the trail and
just then a group came around the corner. I said "hi" like I knew them
and just fit myself inside the line of hikers and hiked on with them for
a bit. It should be noted that he didn't even try and follow me when I
turned around so I think it was a non-issue but my "spidey senses" were
kinda up. Just trust your gut and it is really no one's business if you
are solo so don't advertise. :-) If you go during a time of year that
there are lots of hikers around then you will have a sense of security
having others around.
Have fun!
Kathi
