For the NoBo PCT class of 2016 and the NoBo JMT early-season hikers:

Mountain Education has added 2 new dates for their steep snow skills courses along the PCT and JMT between Cottonwood Pass, over Forester Pass, and out Kearsarge Pass.

This is primarily to accommodate the PCT thrus who are leaving Campo during the two weeks between March 1st and 15th since you will be arriving Cottonwood Pass about mid-April and need to know how to deal with steep snow as a snow-hiker.

Secondarily, these dates and others throughout May, can be utilized by those who have June entry dates to do the John Muir Trail.

This winter is looking more and more like 2010 where we were walking on snow starting at 9,500 feet in early May! Keep an eye on weather reports, ski area snow-tracker charts (like: http://squawalpine.com/skiing-riding/weather-conditions-webcams/squaw-valley-snowfall-tracker/?tab=ui-id-1 ), and Mountain Education’s trail conditions reports on its website and FB starting the third week in April.

Here are the dates for the April SAC-PTO classes:

April 17-21
April 24-28
