I found this to be true on a thruhike and two MYTHs. The hitch out of Onion Valley(Independence) is pretty easy. It's a place where day hikers go up to the pass. There's also a campground right there at the valley. Even if you don't sent a resupply box in Independence the bus will take you north to Bishop if you need a grocery store. Of course this could be impacted by a really big snow year
