We seem to have one more thing to watch out for. There are now imported South American Fire Ants in Southern California. In San Diego,Riverside and LA counties. Just pay attention where you sit before you sit and where you drop your pack(you'll be tired and not look). Especially look for their dirt pile homes when you are camping
They will not kill you but have a nasty painful bite--hence FIRE Ants
Also can cause infection etc etc etc 
Tall grass hides the mounds  I've heard a number of recent reports
