It is with deep regret and much sadness that I inform the hiking community
of the following inf. :

The search for the lost hiker has been terminated. LE is putting the case
into the hands of the Homicide Division, taking a hand off from what Rural
Detectives have initiated so far in the search.

One recent theory is that a camp of drug smugglers might have been
encountered by the hiker, leading to his demise and disappearance. Another
theory surrounds the break up of the hiker and his girlfriend, leading to a
possible suicide by the hiker.

There are other possible theories, these being the latest under
consideration by LE.

Of note: A pair of sandals or camp shoes and an empty Mt. Home beef stew
pkg. folded and tucked neatly into one of the shoes, was found at Tule
Spring. Guessing, likely left behind by an inattentive hiker, rather than
by the missing one.
