[pct-l] Boot Recommendations

Last year I hiked nb from border to Casa de Luna wearing Merrell Moab mids. They were comfortable overall but didn't protect against rocks. I ended up having to cut and tape soda bottle plastic under the insoles.

The other drawback was they didn't grip very well even when new. When worn it was downright scary.

Any recommendations for similar lightweight mesh type boots that have a rock plate, better traction, and aren't gore tex. BTW, they need to be boots since shoes don't work well for me for backpacking (already tried a couple trail runners).
