Tinidazole (Tindamax) works better than Metronidazole (Flagyl) and you
only need to take it once for Giardia, instead of a 5- to 7-day course
for Flagyl.

If one comes to San Diego with a passport, one can buy Tinidazole
across the border in Mexico without a prescription. CFR Title 21
1301.26 (c) allows you to import up to 50 "dosage units" of medicine
for personal use, so it is legal to do this. Or most doctors in the
USA will give you a prescription if you tell them what you are doing.
2g of extra weight is not much for this this kind of insurance.

Using Tinidazole for Giardiasis:

The recommended dose in adults is a single 2 g dose taken with food.
Avoid Alcohol 24 hours before to 72 hours after taking this drug.

Any 'sudden onset' intestinal distress is NOT Giardiasis, so don't
waste your Tinidazole on that. Giardia creeps up on you over several
days.

YMMV, HYOH.
I am not a doctor. I don't even play one on TV. See a medical
professional before you use any prescription medication.
