Now if the increased number of hikers resulted in a proportional increase in the number of trail maintenance volunteers that would be a success! Sadly it doesn't seem to be the case.

Why sad, JoAnn? It's great more people have found the PCT. That's why it's there! It's a national trail built for public enjoyment. The powers-that-be are taking measures to try to minimize the trail impact from the hordes of hikers in SoCal, while enhancing the trail experience for the hikers. I doubt that the trail will die by being loved to death. I dunno but it appears the pct is a success!
