Ijust returned from the Rae Lakes/Kearsarge area yesterday. 
 Ifanyone flip-flopped past the high Sierras in May or June and isplanning to jump down there now, you can still access this area fromthe east (e.g. Onion Valley), but it is indeed very smoky. I thinkyou will be disappointed. 
Myeyes were stinging. The mountain views, which are typically stunningin this area, were obliterated. The smoke gets thicker and thicker asyou head north.

The misnamed "Walker Fire" actually is burning south of a line from Dana Peak to Lee Vining. It closed the Tioga Pass road for a time. But that road is now open again.?
The Rouge Fire has jumped the south fork of the Kings River. This has resulted in Highway 180 being closed north of Grant Tree Road, which makes accessing the trail from Cedar Grove impossible. Apparently smoke from this fire is making its way over Bishop Pass and impacting the JMT south of Muir Pass.
