[pct-l] Tahoe Yosemite Trail

I hiked the TYT in 1976 and there was a log extending halfway across the 
Mokelomne river, which was about 150' wide (or so memory says). We had 
to scoot down off the log into water that was about four and a half feet 
deep.  It was moving just fast enough that it felt like 
stepping/swimming at the same time.  We held our packs over our heads.

Then, when we got to the other side, we learned that the people at the 
crossing had killed five rattlesnakes that late morning and afternoon.  
It made the hike up the other side in brush one with heightened awareness.

I also remember that much of the trail north of the river was either 
really old and unmaintained, or new and pink surveyors ribbon tied about 
20' high in the trees.

I have this memory of Summit City Canyon as being very steep and exposed 
and hot...
