There is bus service between the Medford Airport to Ashland on Rogue Valley Transportation, see www.rvtd.org for details. Doesn't run on Sunday and you may have to ask for a pickup at the airport. I took the bus from Ashland to Medford a few years ago and switched buses in Medford. It isn't the fastest option.

In 2006 I took a shuttle from Ashland to the airport, it wasn't too expensive and much quicker than the bus. 

I was leaving from Ashland so I didn't have to get to the trailhead.
