That was true until a few months ago. We now offer a much, much stiffer “vertical support pole” for $14.  The pole folds to 16” and it's made of Easton 0.49” diameter tubing.  The 45” length pole weighs exactly 4 ounces and stiffness is comparable to a standard trekking pole. You can find such poles, in various sizes from 45” - 56” (suitable for Double Rainbow free-standing setup), listed under “Extras” in the Tarptent webstore.
