Hi Gang,
Trouble is back in town again from another extended skiing expedition in
the Sierra.

This, of course, is good news for the girls but bad news for the guys.
The bad news, I will be in town for a very limited time only (more skiing),
which, of course, is good news for the guys, but bad news for the girls.

As of Feb. 8 of this year Mammoth had received only 76" of snow for this
season,
compared to 261" for the same period last year, and the snow base was only
30" at 9,000 ft., 35" at 10,000 ft., and 40" at 11,000 ft.

Then, on March 6 of this year, after some good dumps in Feb. & early March,
the total was 156" vs 280" and the snow base was 65" at 9,000 ft., 80" at
10,000 ft., and 95" at 11,000 ft.

However, as of today, due to warm weather and lack of measurable new snow
since March 6, the snow base, at Mammoth, is down to 50" at 9,000 ft.,
65" at
10,000 ft., and 80" at 11,000 ft. and warm weather and no precipitation is
forecast for the next week.

However, colder temperatures are forecast towards the end of next week.
Colder temperatures increase the potential of snow and is not uncommon
for Mammoth to get big dumps in March and April, while big dumps in May
are very unlikely.

So, as far as the Sierra snow condition is concerned, it's still in the
air and unless
late March or April dump a lot of snow it looks like this will be
another very low
snow year for the Sierra.

That of course is bad news for "Ski Bums" like me, but good news for
"Hiker Trash" like you.
