Wife is worried in particular about my hike from Kings Canyon to Vermillion
and wants me to have some sort of ability to communicate the entire route
in an emergency.

SPOT?  If so, which of the many versions?  I need nothing fancy - just
ability to communicate.

I have both my iPhone and GPS for navigation (plus maps).  I see iPhone
coverage is mostly non-existent.
