[pct-l] Lite Weight Cookset

Dennis,
Hi Guy! Yeah, the Jetboil is pretty good and heard stories of 10oz stove/pot combinations (Sol Ti) from them. I haven't had a chance to try this one out, yet. Caffin's stove is only about 8oz for a similar set up(stove, pot, windscreen) and it is remote so it will work inverted on a 20 degree morning.

As far as fuel consumption, all stoves get about 9-12gm per liter at best, even the SVEA. Heat exchangers work by capturing "residual" heat. If you cook a half liter in about 7 minutes, there is little "residual" heat. The last time I took the JetBoil out it was on the high side at about 12gm/L, but it cooked in about 1.5-2 minutes. It just cooks faster. At 15oz, it wasn't as robust as the SVEA and packages larger. My brother in law likes the JetBoil, too.

The fuel bottle for the SVEA that I carry is a coke bottle and I carry an extra cap with a tiny tube, made from stripping a piece of 12ga wire, wedged/glued onto it. The bottle and spare cap weigh about 1-3/8oz or 39gm. In the 7-8 years of using it, I have never had a spill from filling the stove with it. If I do see fuel in the tank, I release pressure on the bottle and it sucks the fuel back into it. Priming, I need to get about 1gm or so of fuel into the indent under the burner, the little hose is handy for that. (The SVEA doesn't need a pump, the only moving part is the valve.)

	My thoughts only . . .

I didn't think the Jetboil was a good option until I started using one.
While they are heavier than the stove with a TI pot setup, they are so efficient in their heat transfer they make up for their excess weight by saving gas. I have found that a jetboil will use almost 50% less fuel to boil a given amount of water than stove and pot setup. This is even more true when there is a wind (breeze).
