I have the same Sansa Clip 8 GB, MP3 player and on my scale it's 0.77 oz. With Skull Candy ear buds, 1.19 oz.
It uses a mini to USB port for charging and I have charged it from a 110v wall outlet, a computer, my 5 watt solar charger, an external battery and a car charger with no problems. No need to carry another charger, just another cable with a USB connection.

Can you let us know what the 8Gb Clip itself weighs? Also' I can't tell from Sandisk's website what type of USB connection it uses - Mini USB, Micro, etc. I certainly don't want to have to carry another charger. However if it fits my phone charger and download cable, I'd consider it.

One of the features I like is that there is a Sleep mode that you can select and the device will turn itself off in 2 hours or less. The device has other features including an FM radio. Here is a link for the item on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Sansa-Clip-Player-Black/dp/B005FVNH04/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1389664977&sr=8-2&keywords=sandisk+sansa+8gb
