Hi Joe - A lot of folks used the Goal Zero solar chargers in 2013, I had mixed results with mine. I didn't get much of a charge once we got into forests in NorCal. But, they do charge AAA or AA batteries. With or without a solar charger, I'd definitely get a portable recharger that you can just charge in town when you can, those are best for iPhones. There are many of them - I saw Goal Zero portable chargers, New Trent Torches, etc. They are cheap and light and easy to use and they don't leak a charge over time. If you use your iPhone for navigation, email, music/podcasts, etc the battery doesn't last long. For your actual batteries, I would put a wall charger in your bounce box to do in town when you resupply.
Have fun!
