I have some good news for you and your friend- I just went shopping; buying me some tasty hiker food.

I took a magic marker and wrote the amount of calories for each food on the food’s container.

Here’s a typical day’s worth; noting each container’s caloric values-

Breakfast-

2 Nescafe Cappuccinos / 100 calories each, Sweet Chocolate Nut Mix / 675 calories

(I ran out of oatmeal packets and this is my randomly picked 5th day’s breakfast entree),

Snacks-

for am and pm-

sesame seeds / 1,080 calories, pineapple / 1,020 calories, snap peas / 420 calories,

Pay Day candy bar / 440 calories, Nescafe caramel latte drink / 100 calories, Lime Margarita mix / 40 calories, Abuelita chocolate mix / 110 calories,

Lunch-

consisting of 2 sandwiches of raisin/cinnamon bread / 100 calories per slice, w/ chocolate peanut butter spread / 200 calories each serving,

for a total of 800 calories in 2 sandwiches, followed by

Supper-

Idahoan potatoes / 440 calories, Kraft tuna helper w/ cheese, seasoning, and noodles / 1,150 calories, Abuelita chocolate mix / 110 calories,

for a grand total of 7,785 calories.

This was a randomly selected meal that I put together.

One other day’s meal totaled a mere 3,095 calories.

Bottom line-

I spent a little under $200 for 15 days worth of food, and I’m showing you what a typical days worth of food is worth,

caloric wise and variety wise, and in a straight off the cuff manner with no agenda or premeditated calculations.

What’s the food’s weight you ask?

Hold on while I gather that information.

OK-
Breakfast:
cappacino- 1 oz.
cappacino- 1 oz.
nut mix- 5 ozs.

AM and PM snacks:
sesame seeds- 6 ozs.
pineapple chunks- 8 ozs.
snap peas- 3.3 ozs.
candy bar- 3.4 ozs.
cappacino- 1 oz.
drink mix- 1 oz.
chocolate mix- 1 oz.

Supper:
potatoes- 4 ozs.
noodle, cheese, seasoning- 13.7 ozs.
chocolate mix- 1 oz.

Total weight: 43.4 ozs. with a value of 7,785 calories.

Actually, THAT is a very good ratio of weight versus calories.

I went shopping a few hours ago, totally shooting from the hip.

I am pleasantly surprised and flabbergasted to boot!

It was fun doing this for my own ed-u-ma-ca-tion,

Thanks,
