Hi Seth,
I hiked that section the last week of October, 2012. My photo of Splinter's Cabin has a sign that says "no camping".
I camped at mile 297.5, before dropping down to Deep Creek (dry camp) and mile 317.3 or so, just before the piped spring.
There is a narrow sandy area just down from the trail.

>The best time to hike section C would be in early to mid May. Most of, if not all the snow will be gone and the lower elevations near Silverwood Lake and Cajon Pass will still be some what cool, as this area will be 90*- 100*+ most every day after about June 15th or so.
>No car rentals at Cajon Pass, the only businesses there are a motel, a gas station and couple of fast food joints. Also, I am not aware of any public transportation to or from the pass. >Terry >Sent from my iPhone >On Jan 1, 2014, at 8:54 PM, Seth Jacobs <jacobs.sethf at gmail.com> wrote: >>I'm whittling away on my PCT hike, a little bit, year by year.
