</FLAME ON>

A society gets what it pays for - nothing more - maybe less.

The deleterious effects of the short-sighted, ill-informed continued cuts to the Federal budget
eventually will show up across all of our great nation's infrastructure, including trails. Not all of the
burdens of maintaining the infrastructure can be shifted to volunteers; most should not be!

Further, it is precisely ignorant ranting such as the one below which is a serious problem.
The restrictions on mechanized equipment apply only to designated "wilderness" areas with
National Forests and National Parks. Next time take a look at what percentage of
Forest Service lands are designated "wilderness".

And we're not loooooosing trails - we're losing trails......

</FLAME END>

Sorry had to get that off my chest.....

Hikers,

The reason we are loosing our trails (over grown, or erosion) is the Forest Service has other priorities and

spends it's funding (our tax dollars) elsewhere.

Volunteering is great but the Forest Service can then find another way to spend our money elsewhere.

Personally I don't give a damn whether a cross cut or chain saw is used as long as our trails are maintained.
