[pct-l] Article in NY Times and fires in SO OR

Thanks for sharing this--he hits many nails on the head, including
comments useful for the latest PCT Facebook discussion on trail
angeling. The hikers are coming through in force in Ashland.

It has been very smoky here in the afternoons. The Oregon Gulch fire
is about 6-7 miles SE from the PCT where it crosses Hwy 66, west of
the Greensprings, which is under a stage 1 fire evacuation (they have
to be prepared to leave). The fire is heading predominantly to the SE
over the Calif border, away from the PCT. No trail closures yet, but
extreme fire behavior can be expected with the hot weather and winds.
