 Hi,

I'm bored and picking nits here! If someone has carried hundreds of gallons of water to Third Gate, and you only carry 2 liters to Third Gate, and use the water that is cached there, how is that unsupported? Not having to carry two gallons of water from Scissors, or Rodriguez to Barrel Springs has increased the speed at which you've done that section, no?

If you take food from a trail angel, isn't that added calories that you didn't need to carry? Doesn't that improve your performance?

(In Catch-22 when Yossarian was complaining that the Germans were trying to kill him, Havermeyer pointed out that the Germans were trying to kill everybody. Yossarian's reply was "What difference does that make?")

What we need is an official governing body to decide these things! ;-)

YMMV, HYOH, etc

The bottom line: it doesn't matter what I think. Good luck to the speed hikers. It's an amazing achievement.

My opinion -- and that's all it is, an opinion -- is that if you come
across something on the trail which is there for ANYONE to use/drink/eat,
then use/drink/eat it and you're still unsupported. If you plan to have
someone meet you with stuff, then that is supported.

Good luck to all you record-seekers! I'm proud of all of you for just
attempting this!
