[pct-l] Opinions on the list -MTB

Seeing a no-bikes sign on a trail with (to me) an illegal MTB ban doesn't mean much.
As far as reporting, please do. Please call/email/phone every instance to Beth (or the USFS).
I do not believe I have ever advocated otherwise.
No motive from end - just being as honest as I can. I still find it funny there are people who act like
the sky is falling when anyone mentions a bike on the 2650 mile PCT...
I can understand trail access near populated areas having a potential issue....or even thru hiker season...
but short sections of the PCT deeper into the back country that link together mega rides
for currently 'legal' trails - makes no sense...
as you know, it is pretty underpopulated out there
Appreciate the response,
Nick

I've read a lot of reports on this list that note that trail heads on the
PCT are well marked with "no bikes" signs. But even if they, the
malefactors, somehow don't know, they need to be told (if you're comfortable
doing that), and the instance reported. Oh, and if I choose to tell them,
and they laugh at me, I certainly wouldn't escalate the encounter. Just say
"have a nice day" and move on.
Is there some reason that you're so adamant that citizens
ignore illegal
behavior and not report it? I'm wondering about your motivation

Although I did appreciate the rest of what you wrote....difficult to counter
the logic, even if my
personal opinion sees it as not realistic....I would like to address the
single line of yours quoted above.
There are very many who believe that they are simply not in the wrong, nor
are they doing
anything illegal. The ban in place is dubious at best - and this
information will continue to be distributed
throughout the MTB community.
So it begs the question - if you are incorrect in your assumption that the
MTB'rs encountered on the PCT
'know they are wrong'....how does that change your perspective, if any?
For if I am told to leave somewhere that I believe I have a right to
be...well, I might just start laughing..
which might make you angry...
angry people have been known to do rash and thoughtless things on
occasion...and no
one wants to be part
of thoughtless and rash decisions (I don't at least) ;)
