[pct-l] Paying for SAR
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Terry,
To answer your question how I equate a medical emergency with an
idiot who knowingly hikes into a blizzard, I will say the following.
There is no difference...idiots can cause medical emergencies just
like the idiot hiker who knowingly hikes into a blizzard and then
needs to be rescued.
For example, take the idiot who is trimming a tree and causes a
medical emergency, through his own stupidity, by cutting of the
branch on which he is sitting.
How does that differ from the idiot who knowingly hikes into a
blizzard without being properly equipped?

I agree with you 100%...society should not have to pay for the
stupidity and foolish acts of idiots who have the ability to pay
for their own foolish acts.
However, you can not squeeze blood out of a turnip and therefore,
like it or not, society will always get stuck with the bill for
our idiots who do not have the ability to pay for their foolish
acts.
The only way to get around that would be to get rid of all the
idiots who do not have the ability to pay for their foolishness.

But,......that would be un-american.

JMT Reinhold
Your idiot trail companion who pays for his own foolish mistakes.

Sorry Reinhold, I hit the "send" button before I was finished with
my comments in my last post.

What I also wanted to say is, I agree with you, to a point. Yes,
medical insurance covers the cost of evacs for EMS for those who
have it but, as much as many of us would like to not pay for the
uninsured and/or the idiots who get themselves into trouble, there
is no way to not pay these cost, one way or the other.

being even remotely the same as the person who knowingly hikes into
a blizzard and expects to be rescued from their arrogance, stupidity
and/or ignorance?

//Say Brick,
//If somebody, in this country, has a medical emergency , would that person

//Of course not....in this country people do not die in the street for lack of
//ability to pay for their medical expenses.
//
//For those with medical insurance the insurance carrier pays the bill.
//For those without medical insurance, but with "deep pockets" their own//
deep pockets will pay the bill.
//For those without medical insurance and without deep enough pockets
//to pay for their medical expenses, the government will pay the bill.
//
//As a result, when people have a medical emergency they call an ambulance
//rather than die for fear of incurring a large hospital expense.
//
//Why should this not apply to SAR?
