You need a reading/ hiking partner. Jakob and Tamar walked the ADT coast to coast while Jakob read aloud. Tamar navigated with Jakob propping the book against her pack and just trailed along.

I had a hard enough time with chewing my snacks while I was walking.
Gum would have been out of the question. A book while walking? Certain
death.
