[pct-l] How many pairs of shoes/ boots do you need

John, 
A good guideline is one pair of trail runners for every 500 miles, but everyone's experience is different. Some hikers want more cushioning, so they might change out sooner. Also, the sand in the desert and the volcanic embers in OR can chew up shoes more quickly than pine needles or snow. And if your feet start swelling, you will want to shift to a larger size asap, to lessen the blisters. Because of this, you probably should not buy all your shoes in one size ahead of time.
