That's great information Bob.  It should be helpful to many.  In past years I have read of hikers on this list who also soaked. I think that soaking, as you describe, would be a lot more effective, and is obviously less expensive than spraying.  I presume that your clothes worked just as well as the ExOfficio clothes that I wore.  The one thing that I brought that was most effective in keeping the mosquitoes away from my neck and face was the ExOfficio hat with bill and CAPE. The cape could be buttoned together under my chin or folded up when not needed.  In really bad mosquito areas I still had to use some Deet on my forehead and cheeks.

We have used permethrin for years and love the stuff.  We recently purchased a pint of 10% permethrin from CENEX for $14. using a .1% dilution would make over 12 gallons. Using only 3 gallons of .1% we treated all our clothing and our tent. Be sure to wear protective gloves and let the clothes soak for 2 hours. Then drip dry and air out outside for at least 24 hours.
