The closest redwoods I know of are around Jordan Hot Springs, west of the PCT, as the trail passes through Monanche Meadows (Just north of Kennedy Meadows). It is about 14 trail miles from where the PCT bridge crosses the south fork Kern River.
However, I should warn you they are NOT very spectacular. Just a few scattered trees, and those are not very large, since they don't get the rainfall the western slope/coastal slope tree get. It is deifnitely NOT worth the 25 mile round trip side hike. An enormous forest fire went through the area a few years ago, so there were probably more at one time. A lot of the hiking the last 8 miles or so is through burnt out forest.

Patrick,
Depends on what you mean by convenient. If you are walking from Mexico
then I would say a day or two walk out of the way is not really all that
inconvenient. Depends on how badly you want to see them. The Sequoia's
are on the west slope of the Sierra for the environmental characteristics
that the west slope affords. Same true for the coastal redwoods. No there
are no sequoias or coastal redwoods in very close proximity to the PCT.
Check out some routes over to the groves in Yosemite or Sequoia NP.
Probably will make for a day or two side trip; a laughable diversion for
those hell bent on clicking miles, but if it works for you then do it!
hyoh. there are some quite large doug fir, incense cedar, sugar pine,
western red cedar along the PCT if you keep your eyes out for them
best
