Patrick,

If you have never seen Giant Sequoias, and have the time for a fairly long side trip, look up the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. That is where one of the biggest of the Sequoias is found. It is the Grizzly Giant is in Yosemite, near the south boundary and east of Wawona. If you check the Nat-Geo map of Yosemite you will see that there are trails going south from the PCT that will take you there. You could hike a beautiful loop that would take you through the Yosemite Valley and on up to Tuolumne Meadows. You will be passing Half Dome and might want to get a permit to climb it.

Subject: [pct-l] Sequoia Side Trip

Hi All,
On the subject of side trips again, are there any groves of sequoias or redwoods along the PCT that would make for a convenient side trip? The main ones all seem to be on the western edge of the Sierras and therefore not in easy hiking distance from the PCT.
Cheers
