[pct-l] JetBoil fuel usage, Steripen batteries

Good morning!

Both on the trail and testing at home, I can boil about 11 quarts of cold
(say 40 degree) water in my JetBoil on a 100 gram isobutane canister. I
carry and resupply as if there is a 20% error factor, to allow for colder
water and leaving the burner on a bit long after boiling, and for taking
the extra day now and then to get point to point.

The bigger factor, perhaps, is figuring out how much hot water you will
use. Think coffee, tea, freeze-dried pouches, rehydrating beans, oatmeal,
and don't forget enough for that oh-so-delicious hiker tea as you rinse out
your cup. I boil 2-3 quarts most days on trail.

For the Steripen I assume I will only get half of the purification from a
battery set than that suggested by the manufacturer. I get about 50 liters
on a set, and always have a chemical backup for a couple of day's water
usage.
