We used the Ursack hybrid extensively before its provisional approval was revoked for SIBBG areas.  Our practice was to secure it to a down tree 50 - 100 yds from where we slept. Our Ursacks were never bothered by bears or any other animals. 
For use in non- SIBBG areas, I think it's still the best option if you're worried about bears and don't want to sleep with your food.
