99% sounds a little high for the percentage that bike respectfully,
and I think it is probably closer to 5% assholes, but lets go with 1%,
since you used it

For every 100 bicyclists on the PCT, one will be traveling at an
unsafe speed in a way that will endanger the other people on the
trail. If the PCT becomes like the popular areas of the TRT, that
means many, many collisions.

The problem is that machines traveling at high speeds don't mix well
with pedestrians, which is why bicycles are not allowed on sidewalks,
and should not be allowed on trails used by pedestrians.

Don't get me wrong, I am not anti bike. I commute on my bike way more
often than I drive.

Craig Giffen, another well known list member, lives a car-free
lifestyle in Portland, and has more bikes than I have pairs of shoes.
He thinks bikes don't belong on the PCT either.
