Well, it may seem gneiss, but it's really a piece of schist. Ha ha  
couldn't resist.

And yes, it's likely someone will come along shortly. It's also  
likely you won't actually be solo unless that is your intention (as  
it was mine.) It takes a concerted effort to hike the PCT completely  
solo.
