There are a lot of bars to choose from. My favorite is the Nature Valley Sweet & Salty Nut. That bar weighs 1.2 ounces and has 170 calories. ( That's 141 calories per ounce - more than either Payday or Snickers). Important to me is the taste - they are, to me, absolutely delicious. You can buy them at Costco in bulk - 48 bars in a box. I don't recall what that costs, but the per bar price is not high. They do soften on a warm day - I just lick the wrapper. No problem.

Important note: Payday bars do not have a chocolate coating and so don't
turn into a soggy mess in the heat. Something to think about, especially in
resupply boxes or desert hikes.
Snickers 137 calories per ounce (1.83 oz bar, 250 cals).....6% more calories
per oz
Payday 129 calories per ounce (3.4 oz King size bar, 440 cals)
Your money; your hike; your choice.
